The Bengal Obstetric and Gynaecological Society like every year, celebrated World Contraception Day today.
World Contraception Day was initiated on 26th Sept 23 in 2007 with ten family planning agencies as there was high rise of unmet needs for Contraception and unplanned pregnancies leading to illegal and unsafe abortion thereby increasing maternal morbidity and mortality.
Theme of 2023 is”Power of Options”.
Aims-
1.The women should be offered a cafeteria choice of different contraceptives that will suit her with proper counseling of risks and benefits.It is her choice to opt accordingly plan or space her pregnancies so that each pregnancy is of choice and not by chance.
2.Another burning issue is teenage pregnancies perhaps due to easy available of media ,Facebook acquaintances etc sexual relationship and also abuse is on steep rise.
Child marriage is still prevalent in India .These cases fall under POCSO act.Thus these adolescent and young girls should be educated enough to take the responsibility of their sexual and reproductive health.
3.Barrier contraceptives also play an important role in reducing STI (Sexually Transmitted Diseases).
4.Many noncontraceptive benefits of contraceptives are there in treating and preventing many other diseases.
