Srijit Mukherjee in Conversation with Sreemoyee Piu Kundu

Status Single, India’s first and only community for urban single women, an offshoot of bestselling author and columnist Sreemoyee Piu Kundu which is now both an online and offline network comprising 6000 women, celebrated its May meet at Bianco, on Sunday, May 19.

Five time National award winning director Srijit Mukherji who was himself raised by a resilient single mother, after his parents separated at age 15, was in conversation with community founder, Sreemoyee and discussed not just his growing up years in Dolna school when he imaginatively conjured make believe stories about his father, but also ascribed the strong women protagonists in his films to all the gutsy women he had partnered with, calling life his biggest source of creative inspiration. From taking on trolls using his signature humor to being propositioned for a selfie in a crowded men’s toilet – Srijit had the audience in splits.

Talking about his forthcoming projects, Srijit is looking forward to his Mrinal Sen biopic, Padatik to release in August. Couturier Rohan Pariyar, the creative genius behind Bianco whipped up a delectable Sunday menu as the members of Status Single regaled in this riveting conversation.
“Srijit is a community ally. And for him to spend an entire evening with us is an honor.”
