India’s Team to Compete at JSKA World Championship 2025, Matsuyama, Japan

Kolkata, 27th October, 2025: The All India Budo Shotokan Karate Association (AIBSKA) – Japan Shotokan Karate Association (JSKA) HQ India, today held a press conference at the Press Club, Kolkata to announce and introduce India’s official team that will represent the country at the prestigious JSKA World Championship 2025, to be held at the Ehime Prefectural Budokkan, Matsuyama, Japan, from November 1-3, 2025.

The event was addressed by Shihan Tirthankar Nandy (7th Dan, Japan), Founder and Director of AIBSKA – JSKA India, along with senior instructors, athletes, and dignitaries from the sports and martial arts fraternity. During the press interaction, Shihan Nandy highlighted that this world-level championship will feature participation from over 34 Nations across 6 continents.

This will mark another milestone in India’s martial arts journey. AIBSKA – JSKA has represented the nation at multiple world championships across South America, Europe, and Asia, promoting traditional karate-do and nurturing young athletes from humble backgrounds.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Shihan Tirthankar Nandy, Founder & Director, AIBSKA – JSKA India, said, “For nearly two decades, AIBSKA has carried India’s spirit of karate across continents. Competing in Japan – the birthplace of karate – is another proud milestone in our journey to show that Indian karatekas can stand shoulder to shoulder with the world’s finest. Our athletes, hailing from every corner of the country, embody passion, discipline, and the unwavering dream to see India’s flag soar on the global stage. Through them, the true legacy of traditional karate-do lives on and continues to inspire the next generation.”

Notably, the team includes champions such as Rupsa Gupta (JSKA St. Petersburg 2018 Double Silver Medallist), Sensei Samir Singh (FSKA World Champion 2024), Saptarshi Mukherjee (IKA World Championship, Argentina and JSKA World Championship, Manchester, United Kingdom, Silver and Bronze Medallist), Sanjay Kumar Subba (National Champion), Shuvendu Dev (International Kata Medallist, Alipurduar), Abhijit Sutradhar (National Champion, Cooch Behar) and rising stars Bompu Karlo, Shreya Gogoi, Sri Kumaran Senthil Kumar, and Samridh Agarwal, all medalists from global tournaments.

Adding to the team’s diversity, Sellathurai Ganeshalingam, a 70+ year-old Indian-origin instructor based in the UK, will represent India, reflecting the association’s global unity and spirit.
