Beloved Zubin Garg
Gopa Bhattacharyya (kolkata)
My heart is not at all well… I still cannot accept Zubinda’s death…
I thought maybe coming to Facebook would make me feel a little better, so I opened it…
but here too it’s the same—
pictures of Zubinda, moments of his life, words, songs, even funny little videos… mixed with tearful posts from fans.
The whole nation mourns the loss of such a popular soul… and why wouldn’t it? Zubin da himself probably knew that in his absence his admirers would be devastated…
He even told us what song should be sung after his death—
“Mayabini”… today it shook every heart.
Zubin Garg was a true human being—honest, a lover of nature, a humanitarian, and secular at heart.
In one interview he said he had no friendship with the rich; he was a friend to the poor. He always stood with people at the grassroots, solving countless problems—
paying for someone’s education, covering medical costs, extending financial help—so many lives were touched by him, yet there’s no written record of it.
To have such a great soul among us is our pride.
He loved the entire nation, composing songs in many languages, setting them to his own music, and performing them in his own voice. From writing lyrics to composing and singing, presenting one’s own creation is no easy task—
but he proved himself an extraordinary artist. His magical voice gave life to every one of his works, awakening every layer of society.
In the world of music, he was a blazing flame.
From love to separation, from Bihu to Bollywood, in Bengali cinema too his songs helped actors reach the heights of stardom. His voice carried the blessing of Goddess Saraswati. He had felt life deeply; the pain of losing loved ones pierced his heart, and that raw truth shone clearly in his creations.
In Bollywood, his song “Ya Ali…” carried him to the global stage.
His untimely departure is an irreparable loss to the music world.
The flood of people in his funeral procession proved that “Zubin Garg” lives in every heart. Tears filled every admirer’s eyes… from children to the elderly, all were broken in grief. There was not a soul without tears… even nature itself seemed to mourn his untimely passing.
If only we could run to bring you back…
If only we could keep you bound close to us…
Death is inevitable… death is the eternal truth… and yet, we can never truly accept it.
You are immortal… you will live on in everyone’s heart.
Your unmatched creations will keep you alive… music lovers will keep you alive.
You were, you are, and you will remain… no one can ever take your place.
You are unique, you are extraordinary, you are a great human being.
A hundred crores of salutations at your feet…
My beloved, our beloved Zubin Garg shall remain immortal.
Victory to Zubin da…
