On the occasion of World Stroke Day on 29 October 2025, a Health Awareness Seminar was organized at Braithwaite & Co. Ltd. (BCL) in association with Narayan Memorial Hospital, Behala, Kolkata. The programme aimed at spreading awareness among employees regarding “Stroke” — its causes, symptoms, and preventive measures. Two eminent physicians of the city, Dr. Sourav Basu and Dr. Arpan Dutta, graced the event as guest speakers. They were warmly welcomed by Shri R. Veerabahu, Director (Finance), BCL.

In his welcome address, Shri Veerabahu emphasized the significance of observing such health days, which inspire us to lead a balanced and healthy life. He stated that such events are not mere formalities but reminders to nurture our well-being in today’s fast-paced world.

Dr. Sourav Basu, Deputy Medical Superintendent and Critical Care Expert of Narayan Memorial Hospital, delivered an insightful talk, describing stroke as “a bolt from the blue.” He stressed that prevention is far more effective than treatment and encouraged everyone to adopt a healthy lifestyle, maintain a balanced diet, and manage stress effectively.

Dr. Arpan Dutta, DM (Neurology), of Narayan Memorial Hospital elaborated on “Stroke” as a medical condition. In his presentation, he lucidly explained the definition, causes, and treatment, even presenting key points in Bengali for better understanding. He underlined the importance of the “Golden Time Span” of 4.5 hours — the critical period within which the patient must reach a “stroke-ready” hospital for effective treatment.

The programme concluded with the valedictory address by Shri P. K. Mishra, Executive Director (HR, Admin., Security). In his inspiring speech, Shri Mishra quoted the age-old principle taught by our parents — “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.” He remarked that this simple yet profound principle remains the foundation of good health and happy living. He thanked the speakers and all employees for their enthusiastic participation and reiterated BCL’s commitment to the holistic well-being of its workforce.

The programme was ably conducted by Shri Saheb Guha Roy, Manager (P&A), and witnessed active participation from employees across all departments.

Ultimately, the event emerged not merely as a seminar but as an awakening — a reminder that “a healthy mind resides in a healthy body,” and collective health awareness forms the cornerstone of a strong and progressive organization.
