Kolkata’s Transgender Community Joins special Screening of film Kapal

, 7th September, 2025: The special screening of the much-anticipated film Kapal took place today at Soundhouse Blues Facility 2, Gariahat, Kolkata, in the presence of the transgender community, making it a landmark event celebrating inclusivity in cinema.

The special screening was attended by actress Kanchana Moitra, Raja Sarkar, Sukanya Dutta, Music Director Pandit Pinaki Bose Producer Aryan Ghosh and the film’s director Suvendu Ghosh, who engaged with the audience and spoke about the creative journey behind the film.

Director Suvendu Ghosh said, “Cinema has the power to bring communities together and give voice to stories that often remain unheard. Having the transgender community witness the first screening of Kapal is truly special, as the film also stands for representation and acceptance.”

Actress Kanchana Moitra added, “Kapal is not just a film, it is an experience that challenges perspectives. The warmth and encouragement we received today motivates us to continue creating meaningful cinema.”

Members of the transgender community expressed their excitement, noting that such initiatives create visibility and foster respect for diverse identities.

Kapal tells the story of Kanai Majhi, a poor villager who drives a Toto for a living. His life changes overnight when he wins a big lottery, bringing sudden fame and attention. As opportunists and politicians try to exploit him, Kanai struggles to protect his family and hold on to his simple values amid chaos and greed.

The film will release in theatres on 19th September 2025.
