Manipal Hospitals is Revolutionizing Spinal Surgery through Robotic Precision
A Testimony to Excellence in Robotic Interventions: A Record Setting 50 Robotic Spinal Surgeries in the First Month of it’s Launch
15th November, Kolkata: In the realm of spine care, the advent of robotic surgery has brought about a new era that proves to be offering patients better outcomes. Robotic interventions, which leverage precision, safety, and minimal complications, have emerged as a ray of hope for these patients grappling with spinal problems.
Recently, a 15-years-old Bangladeshi girl suffering from scoliosis found hope in the robotic guided surgery of scoliosis correction – the first-of-its-kind in South India – which not only transformed her journey of life but also set a benchmark for greater success in complex surgeries pertaining to spinal health. Not only she, but several other patients have also gotten a second lease on life at Manipal Robotic Spine Care Center with robotic excellence. A 70-year-old man with revision T-gen lumbar scoliosis, who had previously undergone surgery, underwent a thoracolumbar fusion using S2-ILEX screws, which was performed under robotic guidance for the first time in India at the hospital.
To discuss more on such cases and the advantages of Robotic Surgery, Manipal Hospital Old Airport Road organized a press conference today. Dr. S. Vidyadhara, Chairman & HOD – Spine Surgery and Consultant – Robotic Spine Surgery, Manipal Hospital, Old Airport Road, Bengaluru graced the audience and shared his insights on the transformative impact of robotic surgery on spinal healthcare, leading to early recovery.
For over 15 years, Manipal Spine Care Centre has been at the forefront of spinal healthcare, successfully conducting over 15,000 spinal surgeries. This centre performs 1,000 surgeries every year out of 25,000 reported OPD cases, with 40% of these patients hailing from West Bengal and the North East. With the arrival of the MazorX Robot, combined with 3D imaging, O-arm, and a Radiolucent Operating Table, the Manipal Institute of Robotic Spine Surgery (MIRSS) has successfully completed 50 surgeries in the first month of it’s launch in patients from the age of 15 years to 85 years, including 17 patients from West Bengal. Marking their strong presence in Robotic Interventions, Manipal Hospitals is first of its kind to achieve such a feet in a very short span.
On this note, Dr. S. Vidyadhara addressed the audience by saying, “Utilizing robotic guidance, we’ve achieved unparalleled precision in all spectrums of spinal conditions, including scoliosis correction, cervical corpectomies, cervical pedicule screw fixation, vertebral plasties, and kyphoplasty. These innovative methods reflect our commitment to minimal invasiveness, which ensures fewer and smaller incisions, minimal tissue trauma, enhanced accuracy, safety, and reduced complications. The result? Lesser risk, faster patient mobilization, and a transformative approach to spinal surgery.”
Without a doubt, robotic surgery is here to stay… and it will definitely make lives better for patients by helping them get back to their normal self at the earliest.
