Producer Sarfaraz Mallick: Ushering a New Era in Bengali Cinema
Sarfaraz Mallick, the founder of the film production house PM Movies, is rapidly emerging as a visionary name in the Bengali film industry. With a firm belief in content-driven storytelling and a deep passion for cinema, he aims to redefine the standards of regional filmmaking.
Hailing from a modest family in Bankura, West Bengal, Sarfaraz entered the industry with dreams of becoming an actor. Despite facing multiple rejections and even falling prey to industry scams, he didn’t give up. Instead, he took a different route — working behind the scenes as an artist coordinator in television serials, where he gained deep insights into the craft and business of filmmaking.
His turning point came when he met director Atiul Islam, and from there, his journey as a producer began.
His debut production, “Fotema”, was widely appreciated for its realistic portrayal and strong social message. Following that, he produced “Bansara”, a mythological adventure thriller that showcased his boldness in experimenting with unique genres in Bengali cinema.
Sarfaraz is currently associated as an Executive Producer with two upcoming films — “Muhurto” and “Danob”, both of which deal with deep psychological and societal themes.
Sarfaraz Mallick says:
“I want to make films that do more than entertain — I want them to raise questions, spark thoughts, and reflect society. For me, cinema is not just art, it’s a mirror of our times.”
Looking ahead, Sarfaraz plans to expand PM Movies into Bollywood and eventually create films that meet global standards, with powerful narratives and meaningful content at the core.
