Reading Culture Among Children at Oxford Bookstore, Park Street: 12-Year-Old Author Anushka Singh Launches Debut Novel “The Winged Rings

Kolkata: 11 December 2024: The book The Winged Rings, a English Novel by 12 years old Anushka Singh, was released formally in India. To honour Anushka’s achievement and promote the joy of reading among children, Power Publishers & Motion Pictures organised a grand book launch event on 11th December, 2024 at Oxford Bookstore, Park Street, Kolkata. The event featured a distinguished panel of Bengali literary luminaries, including renowned authors Krishnendu Mukhopadhyay, Indranil Sanyal, and young poet, journalist and musician Shubhadrakalyan Rana.
In an era dominated by smartphones, games, and high-tech distractions, the art of reading among children often faces a decline. However, a 12-year-old prodigy, Anushka Singh, is proving that books still have the power to inspire and captivate young minds. Anushka, a Class 8 student at Delhi Public School, Dhanbad, has not only embraced reading but has also penned her debut novel, The Winged Rings – part one of the thrilling Winged Series. The panellists talked about Digital Distractions vs. Literary Immersion through a discussion how books can be tools for creativity and empathy, most importantly the role of younger authors, how they can or they are contributing to revive the culture of reading.
Anushka’s debut novel “The Winged Rings” is a masterpiece of imagination and storytelling. The book weaves a fascinating tale that champions themes of gender equality and the acceptance of human sexual orientation, challenging societal dogmas. Her bold narrative style and profound message have already created ripples in the world of young adult fiction.
