Madhya Pradesh Tourism held a successful roadshow in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 29th August 2022. The Honorable Minister of Tourism and Culture, Govt of Madhya Pradesh, Sushri Usha Thakur was the Chief Guest at the event. H.E. Sri B.N.Reddy, High Commissioner of India in Malaysia was the guest of honor. Principal Secretary, Govt of Madhya Pradesh, and Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board hosted the evening. Other notable dignitaries were Dato Thangavelu, President of MITTA, Mr. Gunasekaran, President of GOPIO, and Mr. Ganeesh Ramaswamy of MATTA. There were several attendees from the Malaysian travel trade and media.
The event began with a welcome address by H.E. Sri B.N.Reddy, followed by remarks from Dato Thangavelu and Mr. Ganeesh Ramaswamy. A destination presentation was made to introduce the state’s various touristic offerings and highlight new developments in the tourism sector. This was followed by a speech by Honorable Minister who spoke about how the two countries India and Malaysia are connected by various cultural and historical ties that date back to antiquity. She then pointed out several places of interest in MP such as the three UNESCO World Heritage sites, the holy river Narmada, the rich forests, and also about the state’s endeavor to build new circuits encompassing the various Shaktipeeths, Jyotirlingas, Buddhist trail, and Ram Van Gaman Path. She invited the attendees to the state with an assurance of safety, security, and comfort for all travellers.
Mr. Shukla spoke about the sheer beauty of the state’s natural offerings, especially the fascinating water bodies that dot the entire state. He said that Pravasiya Bharatiya Divas is being held in the beautiful city of Indore in early 2023 and sought the support of the Indian diaspora in Malaysia. The vote of thanks was presented by Ms. C. Sushma, First Secretary, Indian High Commission. The event ended with prizes being awarded to the lucky draw winners who get an opportunity to travel to the state for 4 days and 3 nights as part of a familiarisation trip.
Earlier in the day, the Honorable Minister met with the Malaysian Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Edmund Kumar Ramanaidu in Putrajaya and had a very fruitful discussion about how to further strengthen the bond between the two countries specifically with tourism as a centre point. The ministers spoke at length about the great potential for tourism exchanges between the two countries given the diaspora linkages, cultural exchanges, geographical proximity, and direct flight connectivity. The Minister also visited the Global Indian International School (GIIS) in Kuala Lumpur to interact with the students and faculty.
