Emphasis on Synergy between Hindi and Artificial Intelligence at Technical Seminar

technical seminar on the theme “Hindi, Artificial Intelligence and Language Technology: A New Direction for Digital Work Culture” was successfully organized in the grand auditorium of the Kolkata office premises of Oil India Limited, a member office of the Town Official Language Implementation Committee (PSUs-2), Kolkata, functioning under the coordination and chairmanship of the Central Marketing Organisation of the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries.
The programme was presided over by Shri Nirupam Jyoti Saikia, General Manager, Oil India Limited. Dr. Vichitrasen Gupta, Deputy Director (Implementation), Department of Official Language, Government of India, was present as the Guest of Honour, while Shri Om Prakash Agrawal, renowned software expert and former RBI official, attended as the keynote speaker. Shri Ajay Shankar Mishra, Member-cum-Secretary, TOLIC (PSUs-2), Kolkata, along with officers from various member offices, was also present. Highlighting the key objective of the seminar, Shri Mishra said that this platform provides an opportunity for all members to collectively discuss such technological tools, software and digital devices that can make their day-to-day official work more convenient, transparent and conducive to the use of Hindi as the Official Language.
In his presidential address, Shri Nirupam Jyoti Saikia said that in the present digital era, strengthening Hindi technologically is the need of the hour. The effective use of AI and information technology can give a new direction to the speed, quality and efficiency of work in Hindi.
Dr. Vichitrasen Gupta, the Guest of Honour, said, “Technology is not an alternative to Hindi; rather, it is a means of empowering Hindi further.” He stated that AI and modern IT tools can make the promotion and implementation of Official Language Hindi simpler, faster and more result-oriented. He called upon officers and employees to learn and adopt new technologies and play an active role in making Hindi a strong working language in the digital era. He also emphasized the need for wider use of Hindi in e-Office, digital documents, machine translation, social media and other digital platforms.
Shri Om Prakash Agrawal, the keynote speaker, delivered an insightful presentation on the practical applications of AI and language technology. He explained that AI can simplify and accelerate tasks such as drafting in Hindi, translation, editing, summarization, information analysis, document conversion and digital content creation. He also demonstrated the practical use of various AI tools.
The programme was conducted and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Vijay Mohan Bareja, General Manager (Official Language), Oil India Limited, Kolkata. The seminar conveyed the message that “Hindi empowered by technology, India empowered by Hindi”, with AI and language technology capable of playing an important role in this direction.
