OTT Platform SOBSOMOY Announces ‘RUDRA’ Starring Tonni Laha Roy and Mainak Banerjee
When an unexplained death opens the door to a forgotten crime, the past begins to reveal secrets that were meant to remain buried. Bringing this intriguing premise to the screen, Sobsomoy announces its upcoming original web series ‘Rudra’, directed by Arindam Chakrabarty.
Starring Mainak Banerjee and Tonni Laha Roy in pivotal roles, ‘Rudra’ is set against a mysterious and atmospheric backdrop, where an apparently straightforward case gradually takes an unexpected turn.
Mainak Banerjee plays Rudra Sen, a brilliant private investigator who has chosen a life of isolation following a personal tragedy. His world changes when he takes up a mysterious case that refuses to fit the obvious explanation.
Tonni Laha Roy portrays Paromita, a determined woman who cannot accept the circumstances surrounding her father’s death. Her quest for answers brings her to Rudra, drawing them both into an investigation that gradually uncovers unsettling connections to the past.
As Rudra begins piecing together the clues, what emerges is a story shaped by secrets, guilt, justice and revenge. At its heart lies a crime from decades ago—one that continues to cast a shadow over the present. But how the pieces connect, and who is truly behind the unfolding mystery, remains at the heart of the series.
Speaking about her character, Tonni Laha Roy says “Paramita is very close to my heart because she is so different from the characters I usually play. I often portray negative or grey-shaded roles, but Paramita is positive, grounded and relatable. Her bond with her father deeply connected with me, as I have only my father in real life. Playing her was emotionally challenging, but beautiful. I hope audiences connect with Paramita, understand her journey, and allow her to touch their hearts.”
Speaking about his character and experience of working on the series, Mainak Banerjee says, “My character’s name is Rudro, and this web series is coming soon on Sobsomoy OTT. Rudro is a very unique character, and honestly, I have never played anything like this before. When Arindam narrated the story and briefed me about the character, I immediately said, ‘Let’s do it!’ We’ve known each other for many years, and although our tight schedules make the process a little hectic, we had a lot of fun working together. It’s a gripping crime thriller with a very interesting story. I especially loved Rudro’s look—initially, I had some doubts, but after the photoshoot, I absolutely loved it. I hope the audience loves it too. You’ll be able to watch Rudro very soon on Sobsomoy OTT!”
Speaking about the series, Director Arindam Chakrabarty says, “Rudra is a gripping detective story where a series of apparent suicides across the city are mysteriously connected to the Bhagavad Gita. We have consciously tried to move away from predictable detective narratives and create something fresh, intriguing and unconventional. With extensive research and a completely different look for Mainak and the other actors, we are extremely hopeful that audiences will enjoy this unique, thrilling and engaging detective experience.”
The series also features Souradeep Roy as Avra, Arna Dhar as Maitreyi and Priya Mondal as Anamika in significant roles.
With Mainak Banerjee and Tonni Laha Roy leading the narrative and Arindam Chakrabarty at the helm, ‘Rudra’ promises a layered mystery that keeps its secrets close while gradually drawing viewers deeper into its world.
